Full Moon January 2026

CANCER FULL MOON – January 3, 2026
January's birthstone: garnet
Title: Wolf Full Moon

Cancer in captivity of the Wolf Full Moon

The January full moon is called the Wolf Moon and sometimes the Post-Christmas Moon. It occurs at 11:02 Central European Time. This full moon follows the winter solstice – the 8th holiday of the Yule cycle of the Wheel of the Year and is accompanied by winter and snow. The name comes from the tradition of North American indigenous tribes, who named the months after natural phenomena or animals. Winter is associated with the image of snow and the howling of wolves, who approached human dwellings in an attempt to obtain food.

The winter days of January are suitable for taking stock, planning new activities, and a time to reflect on the beginning of the new year, plans, and goals. They are associated with peace and meditation.

Tip for a ritual for the Wolf Full Moon from Nefertitis: strength, instinct, protection, endurance, returning to oneself

The wolf full moon symbolizes survival of winter, pack cohesion, and a deep inner voice. This ritual is gentle yet powerful – suitable even for those just starting out with rituals.

What you will need

  • A candle (white or silver, or black for protection).

  • A bowl of water.

  • Two pieces of paper and a pencil.

  • Something natural – a pine cone, a twig, a stone…

  • A warm blanket or sweater, wolf energy is about body and instinct.

Prepare your space

  • Turn off the artificial lights, leaving only the candle flame.

  • Open the window and feel the cold and peace.

The ritual itself

  • Anchoring: stand or sit, place your hands on your stomach and take 3 deep breaths and exhales (conscious breathing). Imagine yourself standing in a winter forest under a full moon.

Say out loud or silently, "I am here. I am safe. I am listening to my instincts."

  • Wolf intuition:on a piece of paper, answer the following questions without thinking:
    • Where in life am I switching instead of listening to my body?

    • What takes my strength away during the winter?

    • Where do I need to set boundaries or protect myself?

You can safely burn the paper, put it in water, or put it in the dark, see below. *

  • Water cleansing: touch the water with your fingers and imagine that fatigue, fear and pressure are flowing into it.

Say, "I let go of what weakens me. I let go of what is unnecessary." You can moisten your forehead or wrist.

  • Strengthening the energy of the wolf: take a natural object in your hand, close your eyes and imagine a wolf - calm, attentive, strong, but not aggressive.

Say, "I take back my power. I trust my instinct. I walk my path."

  • Full Moon Intention: On the second piece of paper, write one sentence – what you want to protect or what you want to be more persistent in. For example, “I protect my time, I protect my energy.” “I will persevere in what is true for me.” “I will trust myself more.” Leave the paper by your bed, or on your altar, if you have one, until the next full moon.

* Options for the first paper

1. Burning – complete release: suitable for when we are writing about exhaustion, about what we are afraid of, about patterns we do not want to follow. We burn the paper with a candle, watching it turn into ash, which can be thrown away or returned to the earth, e.g. in a flower pot.

2. Dissolving in water – gentle cleaning: tear the paper into small pieces, put it in a bowl of water and leave it overnight, pour out the water in the morning and throw away the paper.

3. putting it in the dark – conscious work: if you feel that the topic cannot be closed yet. Fold the paper, put it in an envelope or box, mark it with the date of the full moon. Return to it at the next full moon or at the spring equinox. The method is suitable for conscious work with yourself.

4. The simplest but most effective way is to symbolically give it to the wolves: tear up the paper, throw it in the trash, and say, "I don't have to carry this anymore."

How to choose the most suitable method?

  • Pressure on the chest: fire.

  • Sadness/fatigue: water.

  • Ambiguity/process: keeping in the dark.

  • The need for simplicity: tearing it up and throwing it in the trash.

Closing the ritual: thank yourself, nature and the full moon. Blow out the candle. Wrap yourself in a blanket or take a warm sweater.
