Larimar, also called the "dolphin stone", is one of the rarest semi-precious stones in the world . This fact is due to the fact that there is only one deposit of this unique blue variety of pectolite in the world, which is larimar. Larimar is mined only in the Caribbean in a very small mountainous area of the island of Hispaniola, about 5 km from Rio Bahoruco in the Dominican Republic.

Another name for Larimar is the stone of Atlantis . According to the famous prophet Edgar Cayce, the Dominican Republic is the remnant of the lost continent of Atlantis.
