Treasures of the Czech Meadows: Herbs that Heal and Scent Your Home

Flowering meadows are not only a beautiful image of summer, but they also hide a wealth of resources that people have been using for centuries. Many meadow flowers are medicinal plants, and can also be used as incense to cleanse the space, stimulate the mind, or simply enjoy the natural scents. Let's introduce a few of them, which you can find even during a regular walk through Czech nature.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

Incense: Yarrow has cleansing and protective effects, calms the mind and promotes inner balance. Its scent is herbal, slightly aromatic.
Medicinal: yarrow supports digestion and proper gallbladder function, helps improve menstrual comfort. Externally, in the form of an infusion as a compress or bath, it promotes wound healing.

St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum)

Incense: St. John's wort is used to cleanse negative and heavy emotions, and is suitable after a period of sadness. Its aroma is sweetly herbal. Brighten your day with a St. John's wort incense.
Medicinal herb: St. John's wort has a positive effect on mood, sleep and relaxation, contributes to emotional balance and mental health. It contributes to normal digestion. It contributes to good skin condition and natural defenses (immunity).

Meadow clover (Trifolium pratense)

Clover grows in almost every meadow, and if we find a four-leaf clover, it is a traditional talisman of luck and success.

Incense: Clover is used to calm and promote self-love and love. A good combination is lavender, yarrow or thyme. Dried clover smells delicate, sweet, slightly earthy.
Medicinal plant: red clover is used as a medicinal plant, which has a positive effect on menopausal comfort, helps maintain normal blood pressure, and has a positive effect on heart function.

Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis)

The name of the herb is derived from the Latin term for soap: sapo, the saponin content foams in water.

Fumigation: soapwort has a delicate, earthy scent, as a fumigation it is used to cleanse spaces of negative energy, to relieve stress after a hard day, to create a feeling of freshness and lightness. It can be combined with thyme, elderberry, yarrow, or sage. It is ideal for home cleansing rituals.

Medicinal: soapwort contains saponins that foam in water. Soapwort root was once used to wash silk. It can be used to support wet coughs, to support proper urinary tract function and in cosmetics, e.g. as a component of shampoos, or a decoction of the root can be used directly.

Linaria vulgaris Mill.

Common lychee is a perennial with distinctive yellow flowers with a fused lip and spur , resembling miniature lion's mouths. It grows on sunny borders, meadows, roadsides , often in drier and disturbed soils.

Incense: Frankincense has a delicate scent, it is used to cleanse a space of old and negative energy, e.g. after illness and quarrels. It relaxes the mind, it is suitable for mixtures and bundles with yarrow, thyme or sage. Its scent is herbal.

Medicinal plant: Lingonberry contains many active ingredients. It is used, for example, in the form of an infusion for normal liver and gallbladder function.

Lanceolate plantain (Plantago lanceolata) and Greater/Broad-leaved plantain (Plantago major)

Who doesn't know plantain syrup? It's a traditional remedy for wet coughs, but also for scratchy throats.

A folk saying goes: "When the nettle burns you, the plantain caresses you."

Incense: Plantain is not a common incense, but it finds its place in cleansing mixtures. Its aroma is delicate and herbal. Plantain smoke protects the space, calms the mind, and is suitable for meditation, grounding, and transition rituals. It goes well with yarrow, thyme, lavender, or sage.

Medicinal: Plantain is used in the form of tea or syrup. It contributes to the normal function of the respiratory system, the normal function of the intestinal tract, digestion and liver function. It is used internally, but also externally for compresses to support wound healing.

Common sedge (Echium vulgare)

Smoker: The herb is smoked to promote inner peace, grounding, and cleansing after stress or illness. Its aroma is gentle, herbal, and grounding. It can be combined with yarrow, thyme, or sage.

Medicinal plant: the plant contains tannins and mucilage, it was used in folk medicine, but is no longer used today. However, it can decorate your garden.

We added sage, lemon balm, and willow to our bundle. We tied all the herbs with string and then just hung the bundle in a dry, ventilated room to dry.

Even if you don't use herbs for smoking, take a walk in the meadow. The variety of herbs, colors, and scents will fill you with positive energy.
